This is…not at all going to be like my Elin blog. FFXIV is my anchor game, the game I will never leave and so I will probably find it harder to write about. “But wait!” I hear you say, “Doesn’t that mean you know it inside and out?” the answer is yes and that makes it very hard to write about with excitement. New experiences are hard to come by for someone like me because each expansion usually follows a similar formula. “Then why is this series here?” is probably your next question and that’s because challenging myself is good for me. I WILL find something to write about.
Lets get into my time with Final Fantasy XIV. I have every lore book, I have the short stories, a couple of the soundtracks, a poster in my room, and even the original carbuncle plush they sold. I was a junkie in college, I would go to class leave the game on and recruit for the FC while studying for my classes (Still graduated btw don’t worry). I played FFXIV 1.0 in 2010 for a short while (it sucked) and came back to watch it end. I played the 2.0 Beta and on launch, my sub has not lapsed since late 2014 when I was in a very lonely and sad place but that is a story for another time. I’ve played the game TOO much and I love it. I love this stupid world, I love the (stupid?) friends I’ve made, I love these stupid characters, I love this stupid (great) community (btw), I love the not stupid devs (most of the time).
A quick class history; I played Thaumaturge in 1.0, Conjurer/WHM in 2.0 Beta, SMN for 2.0 and switched to SCH in endgame because healers were in very short supply on launch. I would remain on scholar until the end of base Endwalker. Soupa Eptco had completed his journey….nah I was sick of healing. Ever since Shadowbringers I had been sick of it and longed for the days of Heavensward healing but they’ve confirmed that’s (probably) never coming back. So Soupa Eptco switched to Ninja for the 6.1-6.55 patch cycle and because he went to the Vegas fanfest with Lufkin and Jinger (Thanks guys) and saw Viper was a thing and his now his main. Oh and I used to be a Miqo’te, Hrothgar is more my style.
My Friends say my character looks scary when he smiles! I like my smile…
So why the name Soupa Eptco? I honestly didn’t adopt this name until the 2.0 launch but I have run with the username Soupa ever since my Runescape days at the ripe age of nine years old. I had good taste because I still like the name twenty some years later. All of my MMO characters are named Soupa. Now the last name. I thought Epee swords were cool and for whatever reason I thought there was a T in it so I got Eptee originally but this looks not cool so I changed it to Eptco because it sounded cooler to say*.
The Advocates of Honor is me and my friends mini passion project over the years. We usually accept everyone into the group so long as they aren’t a jerk or something. I’ll be the first to admit things have slowed down this expansion (Thus this blog’s existence) but we’re still always ready to rumble. I took over as leader in mid-late 2015 and have been running the show since the end of 2.0. I’m really proud of myself for sticking with it, I’ve formed friendships and connections that will last a lifetime here and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Our 10 year anniversary is next month and I want to do something cool!
Whoa this has devolved into quite the post but I didn’t wanna bore my potential readers in later posts so you get frontloaded LORE. See you in the next one! I’ll probably write about chaotic difficulty after I’ve progged it more. See you in the next one!
